Renovation and Addition on Active School Campus

Parking lots, tennis courts, concession stands, and a theater were demolished during the school year at North Cobb High School, an active campus with 2,900 students. The expansion included a new 3,000-seat sports arena on the north of campus, a classroom section, and a new 750-seat performing arts center on the south of campus. This project also included renovations of the main classroom building on campus, including repainting and boiler replacement.

Upon discovering unexpected rock and groundwater on site, Evergreen priced three different options to mitigate the situation. The team landed on a creative solution to replace the 1,600 CY of rock and 2,500 CY of saturated soil with a combination of granite sand and 57 stone. Granite sand is a by-product of quarry operations and 38% less expensive than 57 stone. By using the sand for the bulk of the fill, we were able to save the owner nearly $100,000.
